One of the things I adore about Kiev is that I’m able to escape the city without leaving it. There are numerous parks, islands and recreational zones within the city limits, where you can rest from the noise and the rush of urban life.
My favorite escape spot is Didorovka lake in Goloseevo forest. It’s a picturesque pond surrounded by willows and three dozen barbecue spots with tables, benches and a roof above them. Some are located right by the water, others are hidden deeper in the woods. The booths need to be pre-booked, as the place is quite popular among local shashlyk lovers. There are different sizes which vary in price, depending on the size of your posse. The wood or charcoal for the fire can also be purchased from the guards.
If you get bored from just eating and drinking, there is a rope park and a zipline over the lake. The less extreme option is taking a walk in the forest – there are enough trails to get lost for some time.
Another great thing about Didorovka is that it functions all year round, in winter turning into a snowy sliding hill. You can rent a rubber sledge that we call a “donut” and take a fun ride down the hill, while your barbecue is still roasting!
