A cellar that has been home to several bars in past few years has finally found its distinct name as well as its customers.
Hidden in a basement in a dark arch on Yaroslaviv Val just few steps from the Golden Gate, this old pub with a new face offers a wide range of unusual beers, created by the first Ukrainian craft brewery called Collider. The place is quite small and rather popular, so it could be hard to get seated on weekend nights. The area is filled with hotels, embassies and international offices, so there are usually plenty of expats and tourists sippin’ their IPAs there.
At first, they only served beers and snacks (which I liked as an idea), but the crowd demanded spirits, so now the liquor list is a bit longer.
Pale ale, milk stout, pumpkin wheatbeer, spicy lager – there is something for every kind of beer lover, and the list constantly changes. Such variety of beer tastes is unusual for Ukraine, where for many years there were two kinds – light and dark. The situation changes for better, giving us the choice we all lacked.
My recommendation – if you plan a bar hopping night in Kiev, definitely stop by the Taphouse to check out how craft beer culture is doing in Ukraine.
