National Historical and Architectural Museum “Kyiv Fortress” – a unique complex of the national Museum of fortification. The structure of the Kiev Fortress is an open-air exhibition of defensive ramparts and a caponier. The Kosyi Caponier is a part of these fortifications, located in the very center of the city, which is part of the Kiev fortress and built for nearly 200 years from the 17th to 19th century. Today Kyiv fortress is one of the largest European fortifications still preserved.
My favorite part of this complex is the ramparts – if you go to the top of it you will get the great view on the National Olympic Stadium, recently reconstructed for the EURO 2012 Football Championship, together with old edifices of the fortress, antique wheel guns, in addition to half the right bank of Kiev.
In the warmer season, we like to take a bottle of wine and go to sit at the top of the fortress hill, enjoying our time and the beauty of Kiev with our friends. In winter time you can walk a bit over the fortress enjoying the view and visit the museum. Also, quite often the space of the museum is used for some exhibitions and performances. Due to the shared grounds with the Central Military Hospital, at the moment you can attend different activities, dedicated to the current conflict in the East of Ukraine.
