The name itself is a precise description of where the bar/coffeehouse is located (en. “The first place in Stolarska on the left when walking from Mały Rynek”), so if you know the name, you’ll have no problem finding the spot. Which is a good thing, because it’s a nice place to visit.
It’s hard to define whether it’s a bar or a café – you can hang out there during the day as well as in the evenings. “Pierwszy lokal…” consists of several rooms, which are furnished in this typical “Kraków style” (plain wooden chairs and tables), but the furniture is not ruined, which makes it stand out from other spaces of this type. When it’s warmer it’s also possible to sit outside.
What you can enjoy, apart from good coffees, beers and other beverages, are sandwiches, paninis or salads. They’re tasty, fresh and offered for a fair price, so if you feel like having something light, they’re definitely a good choice. Some things are permanently on the menu, but it’s always worth to look on the board near the bar. Apart from the offer, you can admire random press clippings which have been glued to it and give a pretty awesome comic effect (unfortunately, at least intermediate knowledge of Polish is necessary).
“Pierwszy lokal (…)” is neither modern, nor falsely antique. The atmosphere is relaxed, the light dimmed, service friendly and couches comfortable. This already makes it a place you want to hang out at. And return to.
