There are lots of restaurants in Kyiv where you can have fish and all kinds of seafood. Seafood here is usually thought of as something quite expensive, something that you would have on a special occasion. Not anymore! Now we have the chance to enjoy oysters and mussels every day. Chernomorka is great for two reasons – they’ve made seafood affordable plus everything they serve is local which is quite cool.
They started from one spot located quite far from the centre. Now there are around 9 of them and still growing.
Everything here is from local lakes, rivers and factories. It is possible to get an oyster for as low as $1. My favourites are rapa whelk in garlic sauce. These shellfish were very popular in the Soviet Union and if you’ve ever been to the Black Sea, you must have seen boys selling them at the beach :).
There is a stall where you can choose what you’re going to eat, or you can buy raw fish and prepare it at home.
For herring-lovers like me, there’s also one spot in Podil district that is dedicated to herring only!
All spots are quite busy week-days or weekends, so better book in advance.
