If I were a tourist in Kyiv I would definitely want someone to tell me about this spot. I love places with history, which have a unique feel about them, where you can actually become a little local at least for an hour or so.
Unlike many other bars and loft-style restaurants which honestly all look the same. this place is one-of-a-kind. This “knaipa” (a German word for a pub, mostly used in western Ukraine) has long been known as a favourite place for local intellectuals. It is not rare that you can meet famous singers, TV hosts or politicians here.
There are three areas – first one is the most crowded, that’s where live music is; the room in the back is quieter, they have poetic readings here from time to time, and my favourite third one is the smallest and the coziest, and it has a balcony. They also have a book store. No fancy food or sophisticated cocktails on the menu, everything is simple, traditional and local. Also prices are very low. All in all my favourite place!
