I like small family-style stores where they specialize on a single product and the owners can tell you a whole story about every potato or bun on their stall. Sadly we don’t have a tradition of such mono-stores in Kyiv and it’s very pleasing when something like this pops up and becomes a success. Milk from the Farmer (Moloko vid Fermera) is a chain of small dairy product markets. Although it is not quite family-style, it still has a feeling of a “neighbourhood” store where locals come for their daily bottle of milk “on tap” or a dozen eggs.
They offer about 30 different products – from more common dairy like milk and cheese to our traditional kefir, yoghurt, cottage cheese pudding “zapikanka” and baked milk “ryazhanka”. I like to come here for a yoghurt or ice cream.
There is also a small cafe, where you can have a soup, porridge or coffee with dessert or traditional cottage cheese pancakes “syrnyky”.
They now have around 20 stores, I would recommend the central ones – near “Olimpiyska” metro station and the one at Shota Rustaveli street.
