Not so many places could fit better to the definition of Spotted by Locals than this; even for a local it is difficult to find. On my first visit, I spent 20 minutes on the study of sidewalks and gateways of this quiet yet central district – my district, I have to admit! But you will be rewarded for these difficulties: this small cafe in the basement, with the entrance from the yard, is a nice mini-dining room for those chasing a tasty bowl.
Ramen soup is still a rare phenomenon in all the variety of Kyiv’s restaurants. The concept of this place is as simple as possible – mono-cuisine: the items on the menu can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Here you can order only ramen and rice, supplements and beverages. The ramen noodles these guys make themselves, as well as the original broths. There are two sizes of portions – Baby and Standard. The average check is about 110 uah. Cash only.
The pretty eccentric owner and mastermind of this spot underlines that he has never been to Asia, never eaten authentic ramen, that his cafe is not a restaurant of contemporary Asian cuisine and they do not pretend to cook as “real Japanese chefs.” But hard work, the virtuosity of technique and knowledge have given him the confidence that you will like this food.
