My favourite spot is actually not a spot but an area where I live and which attracts more and more young locals lately. It is basically a triangle formed by three streets – Striletska, Yaroslaviv val and Velyka Zhytomyrska by the Golden Gates metro station in the historic old part of the city.
The area is quite small – you can walk it in half an hour but there is plenty to see here and it can take you half a day to explore it all. You can start at any point and just wander within the triangle randomly. You’ll see different types of architecture, from gothic to Soviet constructivism, different types of modern art – murals, graffiti, sculptures. You will have a chance to explore hidden backyards, small parks, visit art galleries, shop for local Ukrainian brands.
There are also many places here to eat and drink for every budget so you don’t have to go anywhere else. In last years quite a few new small businesses have opened in Kyiv and many chose to locate here. I think there is a certain atmosphere that attracts people to this area – there is not much traffic, it is very relaxed, creative and arty, and you can see historical places, have a drink and enjoy modern culture all at once.
