Entering here from Independence square you will just step into a coffee place. Yes, it has good coffee and one of the best baristas in town. Some craft beers and some desserts as well. Oh, there is a menu. OK. They have food. But where to have it? At these bar tables made for a 5 min break, but not for a full meal?
Password? They are asking you to say the password. It is “BORITESYA E POBORYTE”, which are the classical words of the prominent Ukrainian writer Taras Shevchenko and mean “Keep on fighting and you will fight anything”.
Having said that, you will enter a door, which seemed to be just a wall before. A big restaurant is inside. It has 2 bars and three more different rooms to see. The entire place is inspired by the UA revolutions since 1991. All the artifacts are genuine, it is literally a museum. The idea is to hold meetings with political and opinion leaders here and broadcast live from the radio station with the same name “Ostannya Barykada”, which means “The last Barricade”.
Of course, the food cannot be anything else but Ukrainian here. As well as all the drinks and spirits, even the single malt whisky is the first local one. Sweet tooths will agree with me that the apple marshmallow is a dessert to die for.
There is a tiny gift and food take away store, you can get some stuff for friends back home. An unforgettable visual experience.
