Being a restaurant that serves traditional Ukrainian cuisine, Shynok is also kind of a museum – several thematic halls are focused on different issues of Ukrainian culture and show it in a modern and fancy way. The venue is suitable for a quick lunch between things as well as for a relaxing and long evening out. The dishes are really the traditional ones, but cooked in a new manner – less heavy, less calories, less fat (local cuisine has that all, traditionally), and the serving also shows that time moves on, and Ukrainian is always in fashion.
The Workshop hall is all about traditional craft: the master-classes on many types of activities are easily found on the Facebook public page. One can try pottery, making “motanka”-dolls or Easter eggs called “pysanka”.
What I come here for – to Shazam the music that’s being played: it is always something new from the young Ukrainian bands “with a taste”. Live music in the evenings is awesome – covers of famous songs played in traditional Ukrainian style on traditional instruments: bandoura, trembita, local quill, violin; or Ukrainian songs in an unusual way to hear – always unexpected and fun.
Of course, homemade vodkas are stored in big barrels here: cherry, coffee, lemon or the special horseradish one – enough flavors to make your evening totally impossible to remember in the morning.
