Step inside Be overwhelmed by the cacao aromas, the roasted coffee beans, the pure hot chocolate steaming, ready to warmly take someone to taste heaven. I often execute this little ritual after stepping inside Bettina & Niccolò’s shop: I stop and take in a deep breath. It’s already an experience on its own, so go slowly, don’t rush!
Then comes the hard part! What to choose, when to stop choosing?! There’s the pure dark hot chocolate, which is, as an Italian myself, the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted, then there’s the chocolate, hazelnut and cacao brownie, an absolute explosion of senses. And then, of course, there’s the very strong & pure cacao sorbetto and above all, the end product that begins all of the rest: the chocolate bars. Thin, and carefully curated in different ways, with different ingredients, such as caramel, ginger, sesame and salt, or a full scale up to the mythic 100% bar. Such hard decisions… But what a privilege to have these as your decisions to make!
After you’ve made it, order your espresso. Portugal doesn’t have American style coffee: there’s the classic “bica” like the Italian espresso. Well this is, once again, the best in town. Hands down.
It tends to get crowded, so a great idea is for you to order it in a paper cup, get your chocolaty treats and head to Principe Real Garden, just across the street on your left. Sit down and be ready for what I like to call: a food orgasm.
