Who would’ve guessed that right on the corner of one of the most sought after party areas in Lisbon -Cais do Sodre’s Rua Nova do Carvalho, aka “Pink Street” – would be such a warm and welcoming mix of tavern and grocery store?
Mercearia Tosca is a great combination of traditional and new: it’s as if an old grocery store that could belong in a small Lisbon neighborhood some 50 years ago suddenly became modern, cozier and hip – without losing the mandatory touch of friendliness and proximity that grocery stores always had.
What can you find here? Traditional products such as jam, olive oil and vinegar. Nice snacks too: ham, cheese and other small delicacies. They also have a good wine selection – if, like me, you’re no expert, ask for their advice on the best wine to accompany some snacks – I was very pleasantly surprised with the outcome!
In such a busy street, it’s the perfect place to have an aperitif or a late night snack in good company while watching the world go by!
