The Passeio Marítimo de Algés is the perfect walk when I need to be close to Lisbon and still be graced by the river delta waters and a warm sunset. The walking way is shared by casual people equally enjoying a good stroll, runners who every time they get a chance to stay fit they grab it and run away, and cyclists.
I do all of the above, and of course, I also do the part where you simply sit in the sand at the beach and enjoy a good book. Yes! The further you walk, the more sandy beaches you find!
So when you feel like just getting away from the centre, walk, exercise and relax, all of this whilst sunbathing (on sunny days –sometimes it’s cloudy even here, you know!), then hop on tram 15 or the train and head to Algés station. Use the travel time to get some sunscreen on; even in winter some people can get sunburnt! When there, use the station passage to cross to the other side of the railway.
Pro tip: when walking, right before you reach Cruz Quebrada train station, there is a stone pier. That’s my go-to spot to breathe in the ocean breeze. Get there before sunset, and enjoy!
