Growing up in Lisbon, I’ve had the privilege and joy of going to the theatre frequently. I remember, when I was little, I’d oftentimes simply fall asleep for most of the show, but with time I came to truly cherish the art of drama. Observing other humans dive deep into stories, carrying messages, laughter and tears.
The first play that truly stuck with me was in Teatro do Bairro. The theater is quite dark on the inside, with dim lighting especially on show evenings. I remember being impressed by the metal steps, and the seats being close to the next person, making it a more vulnerable experience.
The play made a hilarious satire of major roles being played out in society, making for a humours and highly critical play.
Never am I disappointed with the work developed and presented by them. They continuously dish out great content, fun evenings and a big foundation for any city: ever-evolving culture!
A huge plus? It’s nested right in the middle of Bairro Alto — the first pitstop or full night out for a large portion of Lisboners and foreigners. So enjoy your dose of art and enjoy your dose of fun!
