I’ll be completely honest – this article is totally BIASED.
I’m sorry. But if anything, it is almost impossible to not be in a city with 300,000 inhabitants… we are all neigbours, friends, family, exes (okay this is getting weird but it is true). So PLEEAAASE come to our beautiful city, new blood is WANTED. And what better opportunity than visiting Druga godba festival!
I’ve been acquainted with this festival for a decade, since my then-roommate – now the director of the festival – started to PR for them. Imagine listening about this festival for 10 years. 10 YEARS! It’s a commitment. BUT I’m so glad I happen to be this privileged because my playlist is basically a rip-off of their program. I literally shazam every performer they invite. So now you know my secret.
This year the festival is celebrating its 38th anniversary and it will – as always – give you a good chance to explore not only a great choice of international ethno music that is an exemplary case of mixing traditional and new influences, but also multiple venues: from bigger ones like Cankarjev dom and Kino Šiška, to smaller ones like Tivoli-based Švicarija and alternative Klub Gromka.
The main festival unfortunatelly already passed but you can still enjoy a whole lot of great content the organising crew offers as accompanying program: two concerts at Lent Festival in Maribor (July 1), a cycle of documentary movies on music in Kinodvor (June 23 to August 30) and Sogodbe concert cycle (August 9 – November 29).
