I think we can all agree that the world nowadays mainly focuses on the visuals. It is truly remarkable to still find visual content capturing “values” that can’t be bought – and I believe art photography does exactly that. They choose “truth” over “facades” – they show us the same world we live in, but from a different angle.

Galerija Fotografija is a private gallery that represents 33 such photographers from Slovenia and abroad. A name that should not go unnoticed is Stojan Kerbler, receiver of this year’s Prešern Award, Slovenia’s highest cultural decoration. His black and white photographs that put the simplicity of everyday life and human beings under the spotlight remind me of the things that really matter in life. Ask for a catalogue with his photographs while enjoying a ristretto or/and a chat with the Čeferin gals (Barbara Čeferin being the owner and Hana Čeferin, her niece). They truly are two very opinionated and remarkable women, that will love filling you in on their ongoing exhibition or works that are for sale.

I also recommend you check the gallery’s website, since it always has artworks of some of the authors they represent as well as the books on photography that are on sale in the gallery shop. That way you can maybe bring home some photographs that are not just your own to remind you of your lovely stay in Ljubljana.
