Through the thickness of autumn mist and lockdown craziness finally shines a ray of hope! And no, I am not talking about the outcome of US presidential election that everybody is raving about. I am talking about the Ljubljana International Film Festival. Coming to our home-screens like a shot of culture straight to our willing veins, this finely-picked film programme surely must cure at least a bit of that Covid-19 anxiety we are all experiencing.
This year’s edition had to shorten the choice of 55 featured films down to 25, due to the special “quarantine” format it will take on, meaning that by buying a ticket you actually buy a code to watch the movie at home via a VOD (video-on-demand) platform. So yeah, you figured it right – the problem was screening rights. What a bummer, eh? Nevertheless, the programme remains excellent! There are movies for environmental activists such as I Am Greta, #metoo activists such as The Assistant, and even movies about leaking sex-tapes and middle-life crisis such as Delete History. I too am above thrilled about the Federico Fellini Retrospective, since he started his career as an illustrator and cartoonist – both two fields that I feel very close to.
So hurry up, make your selection and get your popcorn ready! The festival starts on 11th of November and finishes on 22nd!
