In the times of Yugoslavia, our capital was known to have some of the best outdoor swimming pools in the whole region; numerous water sports competitions took place in Ilirija, Kodeljevo and Kolezija. The latter is also the oldest one in the capital which dates back to 1853, when an old mill on river Gradascica was rebuilt into a swimming pool. 150 years later, from the beginning of the new millennium, the pool had been abandoned for fifteen years, until the municipality decided to renew it and open it to the public.
For years now, municipal swimming pool Kolezija has been gaining popularity for its tidiness, remoteness from the center and especially for being the only summer swimming pool where you can enjoy swimming in the late afternoon and evening, since it’s open till 22:00. For me there’s nothing better than chilling next to the water after the sun sets and freshening yourself before a night out with friends. Coming after 19:00 will cost you only 6€, and if you prefer a morning swim between 6:30 and 8:30 you will need to pay no more than 5€.
