The Gaul in me—born and raised with craft beers—loves quilted flannel shirts, chilling beside the river, and sipping on a tasty blonde beer. I don’t consider myself to be part of any subculture. Still, one way or another, a crafty mix of hops, malted grains, yeast, and water has always played a role in my life.
Needless to say, when I left Antwerp for good, I was a bit worried. Where would I find decent craft beers in my newly adopted hometown? I was afraid I’d face a gruesome quest, but one of my mantras eased my mind: ‘There’s a beer thinking about me somewhere out there at any given time!’
With that in mind, I started exploring Ljubljana. During one of my strolls, I saw a fantastic beer shop, ‘Že v Redu, Primož’ at Trubarjeva street. Here, they offer a wide variety of local craft beers and critically acclaimed international beers.
Seeing how you cannot legally drink inside, the owner provides you with the option to buy a cold brew that you can drink outside or take with you as you walk to Plečnik’s Sluice Gate—next to the river. You can even order your beers online and have them delivered.
If you prefer a cold local craft beer from the tap, you can stroll to the owner’s pub, Lajbah (Pronounced: Lie-Bach). So, whether you’re looking for a local souvenir or a cold brew to consume on a sunny day, this beer shop is worth your pretty pennies.
