E Pellici isn't exactly a secret: they've been plying their big breakfasts and strong coffee since 1900 on this very site. It's still a magical place and one of the few in London that can claim to have universal appeal.
On any given day, you'll find software developers in hoodies, City people in shiny shoes, old East Enders, and club kids in the queue, all awaiting their lasagne and baked beans. There's almost always a queue, but it's handled very efficiently, with friendly people sharing the menu and encouraging small groups or solo eaters to share the cramped melamine tables inside. The shiny coffee machine is never silent, churning out espressos, and can be heard even over the chatter in the room.
The cafe is still run by the family, bringing together a perfect combination of English and Italian tradition. It's a truly authentic East London experience and good fuel for tackling nearby Brick Lane or Columbia Road markets on a Sunday.
