With over 30 stalls of quality Italian and London-based artisan producers, Mercato Metropolitano is a foodie’s hidden desire. Once an old paper factory near Borough, this 45,000 square foot space has been redesigned to look like large food halls reminiscent of Turin and Milan. It has more of a hip industrial vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating at picnic-style tables.
My favourite aspect of this foodie heaven is the sheer variety of what it has to offer. From Neapolitan pizza and fresh burrata, to homemade pasta and Italian gelato. Not to mention the immense selection of wine and beer as well as other food specialties from around the world. It’s like an Italian food festival held year-round! What more can you ask for?
Personally, I recommend a margarita pizza and a mint mojito from the cocktail shack on wheels. It’s a great place for a late night social with a few friends for delicious Italian food and drinks. Later on, you can even catch a movie at the Backyard Cinema.
