""Porto's Bakery" in Los Angeles is more than a bakery! Their cakes have been a part of my family's birthday celebrations since my sons were little..."

Porto's is more than a bakery - it's an LA institution! In 2016, Porto’s took the number one spot on “Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the US.”

Porto's cakes have been a part of my family's birthday celebrations since my sons were little.  (The fact that I no longer live nearby has probably saved me at least a million calories...) You can get a feeling about how good their products are by looking at the long lines. Don't be daunted - I guarantee their heavenly baked goods are worth the wait!

Rosa Porto came to the US from Cuba with nothing but her knowledge of baking & started selling cakes and pastries out of her home to make ends meet. Portos is still family-owned, although there are now four locations and Rosa's grandchildren are running the business.

Heart-warming stories are nice, of course, but you need to go for the food. And such amazing treats:  sweet pastries filled with guava and cheese; the creamy goodness of a tres leches (3 milks) cake; the colorful arrangement of fruit and meringue atop a Cuban tart... My mouth waters at the thought!

It's not all sweets, either. Don't miss trying their amazing Potato Balls (mashed potatoes filled with seasoned ground meat and deep-fried).

Seriously, you need to go (and I need to make a trip across town to go back...!)

There are now four locations. My information is for the original, the others are in Burbank (3614 West Magnolia Blvd, 91505), Downey (8233 Firestone Blvd, 90241), and Buena Park (7640 Beach Blvd, 90620).
