YORKSHIRE SQUARE BREWERY isn't named after some mythical town square in the north of England; the name comes from the stone fermentation vessel once used in the beer-making process. Unlike their brewery neighbors in Torrance, The Yorkshire Square Brewery focuses on cask ales - combining American craft-brewing with British ale styles. This brewery is just the second pub in California to earn a Cask Marque accreditation, attesting to their commitment to this noble cause.
When I was in grad school, I lived in Skipton, a market town in North Yorkshire, England (aka God's Own Country) so I know a thing or two about what makes a proper pint. Any pub owner in the north country would be proud to serve these. Their ales nod to tradition but they often experiment too and that keeps things interesting. I've not tasted a bad one yet - but I'll go on checking. You're welcome.
They also have a wonderful tap room, complete with cozy fireplace, comfy chairs, and dart boards. It's what the Brits call 'homely' - which to them means 'cozy', not ugly. The long-handled hand pumps behind the bar are used to pull the beer up from the casks to your glass just like in any British pub.
Although they don't serve food, they often have food trucks on site. Check their Facebook page to see what's coming up. All the games and events are on their website.
And - just like a good British pub - kids & dogs are always welcome! And there's free parking!
