Dockweiler Beach is one of my favorite spots in the summer because it’s the only beach in Los Angeles with fire pits. It’s near Marina del Rey, so it doesn’t get as crowded with tourists as Venice Beach and Santa Monica. You are more likely to find locals spending time here with their families and close friends.
You can have a bonfire in the afternoon or at night after dark. There are 75 fire pits, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to stake one out unless it’s a major holiday. My favorite time to go is during the weekend because everyone is friendly and relaxed.
You can encounter so many different types of people here! I think it really represents Los Angeles and its diversity. At one fire pit you may hear a youth group singing church songs around the fire, while at the next one you can hear a group of friends blasting hip hop and hanging out. Just remember, no alcohol and no pets are allowed so plan accordingly!
