‘Local’ and ‘natural’ might be buzzwords these days, but at the pop-up store Mellis, they’re taken to heart. The name Mellis means ‘from honey’, and locals are swarming to this corner shop for all things mellis at this new location, from honey-infused alcoholic beverages and honey-based cosmetics and candles to many varieties of honey exclusively sourced from Luxembourgish beekeepers.
If you’re looking for a taste of Luxembourg to bring home to friends and family, Beesy Luxembourg honey gin or creamy Luxembourgish honey mixed with vanilla, chili or strawberries would be welcome and original. Honey mustard, honey vinegar, honey ‘wine’, honey beer, or honey cookies would also make tasty souvenirs from the Grand Duchy, and a beautiful honey-scented candle would help sweet memories linger.
A note about that ‘wine’ – it’s neither mead nor wine officially, but it’s an official blend of fermented grape juice made with local Rivaner grapes and sweet local honey. Perfect for before or after a meal, or just for a sweet treat anytime. You can also mix and match products at Mellis, creating your own boxed selections of the beverages on offer.
As well as pledging to promote one of the country’s most precious natural products and to support and promote local beekeeping, Mellis also helps provide meaningful job experiences for people with mental disorders and autism through its collaboration with the Atelier Eilenger KonschtWierk and other psycho-social workshops.
