I had never been inside this bar until I started giving food tours in Madrid, and to be honest, I probably would have never given this place a chance if I hadn’t started doing those tours.
Das Meigas is one of those bars that seem to be less and less prominent in Madrid. Here, the prices are cheap, the food is simple (but delicious) and the atmosphere is great. When you order a drink, they’ll give you a tapa of whatever food they have made for that day, which usually ranges between paella, tortilla or empanada. The bar is quite small so it fills up pretty quickly, especially during the weekend or on important game days.
The bar is in the heart of Chueca, so this is a perfect place to start off the evening before heading to dinner, going bar hopping, or whatever your plan may be. I love this place because what you see is what you get. It’s not fancy at all and the tapas are straightforward, but traditional, which is enough for this girl!
