I really enjoy the food in Madrid. I could live here my whole life and not experience all of the wonderful restaurants in this city. However, sometimes I find it challenging to find really flavourful food to satisfy my cravings. And, it seems, so did the lovely folks at newly-opened Flavas of Jamaica.
Stepping inside this teeny restaurant feels like you’re being wrapped in the Jamaican flag with its yellow, green, and black decor and Bob Marley jammin’ in the background. The restaurant is lovingly run by Jamaican expats who use only authentic spices from the Caribbean to create all of their tasty dishes from back home. Typical Jamaican favourites like peas & rice, curry, fried plantain, and jerk chicken are on offer and, with one bite, you will feel like you’ve been transported to a beach in Montego Bay.
I went for a casual Sunday lunch and tried the fried plantain starter and jerk chicken sandwich, topped with coleslaw and pineapple with a side of fries. To say my taste buds left happy would be an understatement. Making a choice here is difficult because everything looks so good, but I doubt you can go wrong with whatever you choose. Savoury food at reasonable prices, served by kind people who are so proud to share their culture and food, makes for a place you can’t wait to return to again and again. Despite opening so recently, there is already a buzz around this restaurant, and for good reason. You’ve been warned.
