I do not wear hats, ever, but after these past holidays, the freezing winter of 2022 and getting to know this shop, I might change my mind!
My dad wears them, as did both my grandfathers so of course, my brother does too. And thanks to him we came to La Favorita during his latest visit to Madrid. It was like traveling back in time.
It’s a classic shop in a classic spot, Plaza Mayor. And even though many tourists wander around this location, La Favorita keeps its authenticity intact and that is why I love it so much. Famous writers, actors and politicians are among their customers. Some of them might even surprise you.
You will find it filled with berets, caps and fedora hats, in all kinds of fabrics, colors and brands; you can also find scarfs and gloves on their catalog. One cool thing they offer is shipping to almost anywhere else in the world. The online buying experience seems to be working perfectly fine but visiting the shop should be your first choice, whenever possible. Also, they speak perfect English. Do not let long-distance become a factor, though – find their website and thank me later.
La Favorita is a family-owned business still until this day. The shop was founded by Teodoro Enguita in 1894 and has resisted turning into a restaurant of any kind or a souvenir shop for over a century. That’s how interesting this place is.
