Outdoor cinema is a tradition that happens in cities, towns and villages all over Spain during the summer months.
From mid-June until the end of August on Saturday nights, La Casa Encendida (a social and cultural arts foundation) shows films on its roof terrace, “La Terraza Magnetica.” For a mere 3 euros you can enjoy interesting screenings while sitting outside in a beautiful setting. Films start at 22:30 and quality headphones are provided, so background noise is no problem.
Buying tickets is easy – just visit their Facebook page to check what is on and purchase ahead (recommended to avoid disappointment!). If you like mainstream, the programming may not be for you – La Terraza Magnetica serves an eclectic selection of cult and alternative cinema.
There’s a bar so you can have drinks and snacks just like in a regular cinema – except it is so much more magical to be outside on a rooftop on a beautiful summer’s night.
Also running during the summer are concerts every Sunday night – they start at 20.30 and at 5 euros it’s a great deal; again, I recommend buying in advance as numbers are limited.
If you don’t make it to a movie or concert this summer, don’t stress! La Casa Encendida is worth visiting anytime; exhibitions are free; there’s a cafe, library and shop too and you can have a drink on the roof before screenings and concerts begin.
