Outdoor cinema is a tradition that happens in cities, towns and villages all over Spain during the summer months.
In July and August on Saturday and Sunday nights, La Casa Encendida (a social and cultural arts foundation) will show films on its roof terrace, “La Terraza Magnetica.” For a mere 3 euros you can enjoy interesting screenings while sitting outside in a beautiful setting. The theme this summer is “Un Encuentro Vegetal” (A Vegetal Encounter), featuring movies that explore the relationship between humans and the natural world. Films start at 22:00 and quality headphones are provided, so background noise is no problem.
Buying tickets is easy – just visit their Facebook page to check what is on and purchase ahead (recommended to avoid disappointment!). You can also purchase tix on their website. If you like mainstream, the programming may not be for you – La Terraza Magnetica serves an eclectic selection of cult and alternative cinema.
There’s a bar so you can have drinks and snacks just like in a regular cinema – except it is so much more magical to be outside on a rooftop on a beautiful summer’s night.
Also running during the summer are concerts on either Saturday or Sunday – they start at 21:00 and at 5 euros it’s a great deal; again, I recommend buying in advance as numbers are limited and tickets are selling out fast.
If you don’t make it to a movie or concert this summer, don’t stress! La Casa Encendida is worth visiting anytime.
