Mercado San Ildefonso had to close for a few months during the pandemic in 2020, but it is back on track (with changes) so of course, I must keep you guys posted on all the new details. They had been open only in the weekends, but starting this month, it will open every other night as well.
Is in one of the trendiest neighborhoods, Malasaña, but if you happen to be walking down Fuencarral street you may even miss it, as the ground level seems like a regular multi-bar space, with nothing special. But the building has been refurbished to accommodate food stands, bars, and two indoor terraces. There used to be tourist apartments available; sadly, that is not the case anymore.
Asian, Mexican, and Venezuelan specialties and typical Spanish “tapas” is what they offer, you can have them right there or take-away. Every tapa I have tried was particularly good, nothing too elaborate, but good quality products. Friendly prices too.
On the cocktail bar on the third-floor soft rock & roll is always playing like it is in the back of your head. During this complicated time, I suggest you go to one of their indoor terraces, the open space will make feel safe and allow for a wonderful time. All of our spots need our love and support, so do not hesitate to come back to San Ildefonso and enjoy its lively and urban spirit.
