The going-out culture in Madrid is pretty hard to beat, and even if it’s not your scene to go out dancing until the early hours of the morning, today I’m proposing to all you lovely readers out there to try out Ocho Y Medio disco.
As silly as it may sound to say this about a discoteca, Ocho y Medio holds a special place in my heart. It was one of the very first discos that I went to during my first year, and I was drawn in by the diverse vibe of people and music. To give you an idea, bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys and even Blondie and Kendrick Llamar can be heard, along with really awesome indie Spanish groups, such as Izal, Vetusta Morla and La Casa Azul. Don’t worry if you don’t recognize any of those last bands – all the music is upbeat, fun and super dance-able.
The best part is that every few weeks, an event called “Tres a Las Tres” is held in the disco. Basically it’s a “secret” concert that lasts for about 15 minutes that’s held at three in the morning. The surprise band (usually Spanish) plays three songs, the curtains close, and all of the sudden the disco goes back to normal. It’s awesome and so different! So leave your heels at home because the atmosphere here is pretty chilled. Vans are allowed, so slip on those suckers and get ready to dance the night away.
