While visiting Madrid a must stop option for a traditional Spanish meal is Taberna El Buo in the Chueca neighborhood. This cozy Spanish restaurant offers a wide range of classics like tostas, meats and cheeses, patatas bravas, croquetas, huevos rotos, solomillo, tortilla and more.
The most well known dish at El Buo is the Spanish tortilla. Tortilla is one of the most famous dishes from Spain. It is like a large omelette with potatoes usually cut into small triangular pieces. Many people put their own spin on the dish and add all sorts of different ingredients inside like onion, cheese, chorizo, mushroom, spinach, among countless others.
If you stop by El Buo ordering the tortilla is a must, my favorite being the one with caramelized onion and goat cheese. You will be thanking us right after your first bite into this simple yet delicious dish. All of the ingredients melt perfectly together, especially in the center. Warning: the tortilla is massive, usually enough for 3 or even 4 people to share so either go in a group or you will have breakfast for the rest of your trip! El Buo also prepares the tortillas to take away. If the weather is nice it is a fun idea to take a tortilla and make a small picnic in one of Madrid’s countless parks. Other favorites here are the patatas bravas and grilled vegetable plate.
