Fun House, a teeny hole-in-the-wall music club tucked away on Calle de Palafox, just off Plaza de Olavide in Chamberí, is indeed just that. I discovered this little concert venue quite fortuitously when I first arrived in Madrid and it has since become my favourite place to throw on my leather jacket and go see a gig. The best part is, I’m always home by 11… PM, that is. 

Adorned with glow in the dark decor, band posters, and what looks to be a papier-mâché Elvis strapped to the ceiling, Fun House caters to the easy-going punk rock, 60’s garage, and soul crowd, and there is something about the atmosphere that takes me back to the amazing venues of the nineties. You will never get the big names passing through here – capacity is only 178, after all – but you will have the opportunity to discover a new band or see an obscure favourite in an intimate setting while you dance the early evening away. 

Fun House’s concerts sometimes begin before the club’s official opening time and the schedule is jam-packed every week. With shows starting at 7 PM, there is no excuse not to take in some cool live music on a “school night” or before you head out somewhere else. High-quality bands, friendly staff, and not a tourist in sight make Fun House Music Club one of the coolest places in Madrid to come and rock out!
