Malmö is an old industrial town. There have been many factories both in what is now the city center, the harbour and in the outskirts. This is very visible when walking around — most of the buildings are now used for something else or are being rebuilt into new areas that are popping up at the habour, Kirseberga, for example.
There is lots of limestone in the ground so there have been at least two big limestone quarries in Malmö, one in Klagshamn and one in Limhamn. Both are now taken over by nature, and that has created wonderful restored areas. The limestone quarry in Limhamn is deep, but there is a walking/running path all around it. There are many wild flowers and wild animals, such as deer, hares, rabbits etc. It is a very nice area to go for a walk, get away from the busy city, and have t a look at what used to be here.
I usually come here for a run or walk. There is also a guided walk for free. I haven´t done it myself yet, it is on my list for things to do on my next staycation.
