Manchester’s most reliable, relaxed and colourful bar with bags of space, cheap but decent food and legendary tea, coffee and beer selections has to be Font.
As if these victories weren’t enough, the number one jewel in Font’s crown is its status as the city’s only provider of £ 3 cocktails (to my knowledge!)
The times have changed but the deal hasn’t – Font will mix up and serve up over 30 types of £ 3 to £ 7 cocktails for your drinking pleasure, day or night. The amaretto sour is a star, a classic that is always well made, considering the price.
When you fancy something sweeter, the Cherry Bakewell is like a dessert in a glass, while a few glasses of Dancing Juice will have you up and practicing your finest air guitar riffs.
I mentioned the space and it’s an important point – Font always feels welcoming and even when busy a seat always seems to become available. I used to host a book group here every month as it was the only place likely to accommodate an ample crowd on its vast, cozy sofas.
Colourful murals and artwork will keep your eyeballs busy while you wait for well-priced comfort food such as a Return of the Mac double cheeseburger (£ 9) or Ugly Fries (£ 5.50).
Hot drinks are served with a Freddo on the side – just one of the small but much appreciated ways Font shows Manchester how much it loves us. We love you too Font, we love you too.
