The long summer days of drinking beer by the canal until the early hours might be behind us, but I’m still enjoying my weekend walks at the New Islington Marina. The hot summer evenings have simply been replaced by crisp autumn mornings.
One of the main reasons I love having this spot on my doorstep is that it’s a little slice of tranquility away from Manchester’s bustling Northern Quarter and the ever-expanding heart of Ancoats. I think it’s just a lovely glimpse into the quaint British countryside with its brightly coloured canal boats, still peaceful water and lots of avian life.
One of Manchester’s favourite bakeries, Pollen, has just opened on the marina, so once you’ve built up an appetite walking along the canal, you can pop in for brunch, cake and coffee. And a warming hug with the cafe’s resident floof – Maru.
