Mexico City is the land of tacos. They are the easiest way to eat something cheap and delicious, fast.
Now buns work the same way. Aika Buns is a small place in Juárez neighborhood. I heard about them a long time ago but I tried them last week. It was a surprise. They are absolutely delicious. I asked for the open-pork-belly, it’s like a taco but with rice bread instead of tortilla. I put some salsa macha inside — this sauce is oil-based with a mixture of dried chili — and it was amazing: warm on the outside and deliciously hot on the inside. The texture of the bread brought a whole new experience, close to tacos and far away at the same time.
There are also sweet buns: chocolate-cranberry, and caramel with nuts. I tried the second one and I’m salivating now.
Aika Buns is a good place to make a short stop before going to a bar at the same neighborhood.
