In the middle of Colonia Roma stands KURA, the izakaya of Mexico City. In Japan, izakaya is a place where people go to have some drinks and grab a bite after work. That’s the kind of place KURA is: the perfect midpoint between a casual bar and a fine restaurant where authentic traditional food is served. A wide variety of dishes is offered, so one visit to this place won’t be enough to become familiar with their menu.
My favorites to this day are their gyozas – Japanese dumplings that come with a tasty spicy sauce-, the karaage chicken with its delicious smoky flavor, ten don – as I never miss the chance of eating kakiage – and harumakis a.k.a. spring rolls. You should leave room for dessert. They have this amazing matcha cake that comes with an exquisite matcha ice cream that you have to try. I find the experience of eating at KURA warm and pleasant from the moment I enter and everyone says and everyone shouts “irasshai!”
