This is a very popular restaurant with white and red table cloths, tiny tables, tasty food and a really lively atmosphere. It has the same name as a very posh restaurant near the central station (called Giannino) where all the models, football players and tv starlets go to be sure that their photo is in some gossip magazine the next day. Da Giannino – L’angolo di Abruzzo is just the opposite!
It looks very small as it is always full and very, very noisy: besides the sounds of people speaking to each other as they eat there, at times you can also hear a bank with all its instruments. The food is genuine and home-style: big portions, traditional ingredients and Abruzzo’s recipes (most of them are very similar to other central Italian regions).
Don’t go there if you are on a diet, if you order a simple salad the owner could take it as a personal offence. The first thing that you will be served, even if you don’t order it, is some bread, made crisp in an oven and seasoned with spices and abundant oil.
I suggest getting the antipasto (one for two people is more than enough!) and only then order the next dish.
Service is very quick, but be prepared to be pressed to leave once you have finished. I suggest to go towards 19:30, at 21:00 it is so crowded! A second location has been opened in Via Padova.
