Bâtiment 7 – Community centre to the max!

Earlier this year, when I first told my friend that I would be moving to Pointe-Saint-Charles (PSC) he immediately said : “Oh, then you’ll be very close to Bâtiment 7. It’s great, you should really go there one day.” Well, alright then, but what is it?

Bâtiment 7 (French for “Building 7”) is a self-managed community centre, located on a plot previously owned by the Canadian National Railway, a.k.a. CN Rail. The building opened its doors in 2018. The 8,300 m² space offers a wide variety of services and activities for all layers of PSC’s population.

Le Detour is a non-profit grocery store that offers prepared meals, a community fridge and seasonal produce.

Love beers and microbreweries? Good, the building also has a bar called Les Sans-Taverne where you can taste craft beers brewed on-site. Keep an eye on their website to stay informed about their occasional concerts or karaoke nights.

But that’s not all. If you are creative and you want to expand your skills, Bâtiment 7 houses a dark room, a woodshop, a ceramic studio, a bike shop and an auto mechanic. You can rent the space to do your own thing or you can just attend one of the courses offered.

I strongly recommend signing up for their newsletter and/or follow them on the social medium of your choice. Hope to see you there soon!
