Cinéma Moderne on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Mile End opened its doors in September 2018, right around the same time I set foot in Montreal. Me, a film buff and eager to integrate in this exciting city, didn’t hesitate one bit to sign up as a volunteer. A few weeks later, BOOM!, I was selling tickets at the ticket booth. Like a pro, I may add.
Now, almost 3 years later, this bar slash cinema is still one of my most cherished spots. With only 54 seats available, you are most definitely in for a unique and rather cosy cinematic experience. They offer – to put it in their own word – ‘a program devoted to promoting diversity and celebrating independent filmmakers’. I couldn’t have said it any better. On the weekends, miniature movie lovers are welcome for ‘Petits Modernes’, film screenings tailored to kids.
Word of advice though; it’s highly recommended to buy your tickets online in advance. Due to the minimal seating, tickets for popular movies generally sell quicker than a corn kernel says POP!.
The fair prices, an interesting program and an awesome staff is what makes Cinéma Moderne my go-to spot for drinks and movies!
