Many places in Montreal make me feel like I am in another country; however, few have the ability to make me travel through time as much as the Dominion Square Tavern. I have been visiting for the past decade, and each time I walk in, I am always impressed by the old and elegant interior, a window into the history of the tavern.
While the dishes I have tasted are always excellent, my favorite reason to stop by is for a cocktail at the bar. My top three picks are the classic Pimm’s cup, always refreshing, a Mint Julep or a Basil & Rye. The glasses are usually delicate and antique, though my favorite decorative touch is the ladder sliding behind the bar. The inaccurate, penny operated scale near the bathrooms always amuses me too.
Everyone from my mother, brother, best friends and boyfriends, have accompanied me for a drink at the Dominion Square Tavern. It is always a nice stop downtown, to add a splash of old glamour to my day.
