Fall is THE season for film festivals in Montreal. There are so many that I had trouble choosing in the past, so I haven’t been able to visit them all.
A festival that I haven’t explored yet, but I’ve been very curious about, is the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma that takes place from October 7th until 18th in theaters and, new this year, online from October 8th until 31st. According to their website, they are the largest general-interest film festival in Quebec and the oldest in Canada. Their focus is on ‘new’ (‘nouveau’ is French for ‘new’); new creators, new approaches and new technologies.
Mid-August it was announced that the festival will be kicked off by the film Souterrain by Sophie Dupuis. The photo above is still from the movie. My Salinger Year, by Philippe Falardeau, gets the honor to close the festival this year.
Tickets for screenings in theaters are already available. For the online screenings, you will need to wait until September 29th. Check out their website to stay informed about the program.
