Art is at no shortage in Montreal, a city showcasing fine museums, galleries and street art at every corner. Many galleries are concentrated in Old Montreal where the pedestrian traffic is especially high. One particular gallery where the work exhibited is usually more thought-provoking to me than others, is the Foundation Phi, previously known as the DHC. The Foundation Phi is located on a smaller side street, away from the chaos of the port, and hosts exhibits in two adjacent buildings.
The first time I visited, one of the employees gave me and my friend a complimentary tour detailing many interesting facts about the work which we would never have been privy to. Since this first visit, I go to each new exhibition and more than once have been offered a tour to truly share the message the artist is seeking to express. Certain months I have no idea what is trying to be communicated, other months the work is more direct. Regardless, the selection of exhibits curated is different and unique.
My favorite relaxing afternoon in the Old Port includes a stop by the Foundation Phi to see what is new.
