Just north of Ahuntsic, at the edge of the island of Montreal, is the Île de la Visitation Nature Park. This green oasis is right by the Prairie River, and some small rapids are even visible from many of the seating areas. There are a few trails through the park to explore by foot or bicycle, one of which leads you across a bridge to a peninsula, which is the Visitation Island. It is the perfect spot — here I feel like I’m on holiday, exploring a foreign land.
On a day when I have time and the weather is nice, I like to bike straight up from my home in the Plateau Mont Royal and spend a relaxing afternoon at Île de la Visitation Nature Park. For bird lovers, the park is home to many varieties, which can also be said about the range of trees to be found. My favorite parks always have some kind of body of water, and the Prairie River is a great one. For a day exploring nature on the Island of Montreal, the Île de la Visitation Nature Park is the perfect green escape.
