Something about being on a boat makes everything more exciting. The Canal Lounge docked right next to the Atwater Market is no exception. This floating bar, which is a refurbished river barge, is owned by a kind duo of ex flight attendants from Europe. The service is friendly, and the menu is simple with a few house specialties – be sure to try the sangria!
The drinks usually come with a small bowl of complimentary popcorn, or I like to order some olives as a snack. The tables inside are cozy and romantic, while the seating outside at the front or back of the deck definitely makes me feel like I’m on holiday in Europe.
My favorite time to come for a drink at the Canal Lounge is in the late afternoon, after a bike ride along the water and a stop at the market for local goodies. Then I take a seat and settle in to relax and watch the sun slowly set over the canal, with the Montreal skyline as a backdrop.
