Located in the heart of Montreal’s Villeray neighborhood, Mesón offers a variety of Spanish-inspired comfort food. This place offers a pleasant atmosphere in a modern setting with high ceilings and wide street-side windows.
The menu choices are abundant, with a lineup of appetizers, mains and deserts. My favorite starters are the “cocas”, a traditional Catalan flatbread, topped with tomatoes, goat cheese and basil, as well as the croquetas made with serrano (jamón) and béchamel.
Although there is a solid selection of meat and fish dishes, my usual go-to dish is the famous paella “a la Mesón”. Made with the indispensable bomba rice and chicken, shrimp, clams, mussels, chorizo, tomatoes and green peas. It’s delish! I have travelled to Andalusia and I guarantee this is as good as it gets in Montreal!
Being a big fan of brunch, I cannot miss the opportunity to mention that they also serve an amazing brunch on the weekends (from 10:00 – 14:30). They offer all the classics but with a Spanish flair such as the eggs, potato croquettes and serrano dish or the cassoulet with chorizo and egg on toasted ciabatta. Don’t miss trying the ‘patatas bravas’!
With its extensive selection of Spanish wines, good food, enthusiastic and attentive staff, it is sure to satisfy your need for a lovely spot to share special moments with friends and family.
