Look for the red door to Salon Cardinal and prepare to be transported. Located on the Main, hidden above Sparrow bar (by the same owner), a two-floor Victorian style tea room awaits. The space is a visual paradise with antique red velvet sofas, a baby grand piano, crystal chandelier, assorted tea cups, and souvenir spoons all adding to a very old-world feel.
The menu is made up of snacks both salty and sweet with traditional cucumber & cream cheese sandwiches, smoked trout or deviled eggs. I opt for the sweets for their handwritten labels.
Lavender Earl Gray, fragrant and calming, went along well with a warm blueberry scone with a side of clotted cream. A small pot of Cardamom coffee is a close second choice.
Salon Cardinal wins for its grand decor, private nooks, and ideal for spending a cozy afternoon writing letters or just escaping to a hidden time warp to a more elegant era.
