Of all of my hobbies, going to the cinema is my favorite one. I love to watch movies, art house films, comedies, dramas, pieces screened at festivals, and even chick flicks – depending on my mood. I remember that back in 2004, when I just arrived to Moscow, and didn’t know what cinema to choose, one of my friends advised me to visit the Cinema Center on Krasnaya Presnya – that’s the only title the Solovey cinema center had before 2011.
They say the Solovey cinema center is the only multiplex in Russia which works in a Parisian way – movies are shown based on movie-goers’ willingness to watch them. For example, ‘Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain’ had been screening for 37 months! That’s definitely a record. So, when I know that a movie I’d like to watch will soon disappear from all the other cinemas in town, and I don’t want to miss it, I head to the Solovey cinema center.
When I first came here, it didn’t have so many cinema halls for screening. Actually in this very buliding were two of the biggest Moscow night clubs. After the renovation their space was used for screening, too. Besides, there are two cute cafes, so you won’t be hungry if you somehow forget to have your breakfast. Yep, I often come here in the morning: the tickets are much cheaper, it’s not overcrowded, and I may watch not only one movie a day. Sounds like an idea for a perfect weekend!
